Beginnings

Graduation day has come.
The future is in sight.
Long, hard years of work are o'er,
All leading to this night.

Years of study now behind,
Preparing for today.
Ceremonies mark the rite
Of passing yesterday.

An end and yet beginning,
For tests are never done.
God Himself will keep the score
Of lessons lost or won.

How will I now live my life?
What values will I hold?
What will others say of me
When I am very old?

Will they say I kept the faith
and lived a blameless life?
Or will I be marked with sin
Like anger, greed, and strife?

Will God still be in control
When all my days are done?
Or will Satan hold the cards
That say with me he's won?

Will my life be meaningful,
Eternal treasures make?
Or will pleasure be my goal,
All fun for pleasure's sake?

While you're here, more life's ahead,
A day, a month, a year,
Live for God where peace abounds
Or live for self . . . and fear!

Don't put off the choices here,
Tomorrow comes too late.
Start right now and live for God,
And do not hesitate.

Oh, dear God, please let me live
With lots of faith and love,
Serving you and laying up
Crowns in heaven above.
