Christmas Perspectives

Joseph's Perspective

As I lay dreaming in the night
An angel showed to me
The wondrous plan God had in store
For Mary's blessed baby.

God wanted me to be the man
To raise His only son.
Immanuel, "God with us,"
Messiah, Begotten One.

But now we have this Caesar
Giving his decree,
And we must make a journey
From here in Galilee.

We must go to Bethlehem
Although the time is near.
Dear Lord, please help me not to have
Anxiety and fear.

Protect us from all hidden foes,
Keep Mary safe and strong.
Help me find a place to stay,
Amid the swelling throng.

Help us arrive before the time
That Mary's babe is due.
Give me grace to help her, Lord,
For all of this is new.

Help me to be the man of God
That you want me to be.
Husband, father, faithful man,
My praises go to thee.

Mary's Perspective

This journey is tiring,
The path up and down.
I can't wait 'til we get to
Bethlehem town.

It couldn't have come
At a worse time.
I'm heavy with child,
Not another climb!

I'm tired and weary
But on we must go.
Enough of complaining,
For this thing I know:

This child is of God
And He's in control.
He will give comfort
And peace to my soul.

He surely will help me
Endure what I must
For He is the Lord,
faithful and just.

I am His servant,
To Him I will go
When I am needy
For this thing I know:

God's in control.
He has His plan.
Messiah is coming,
Salvation for man.

So I must be faithful
In my small part,
Treasuring moments
Down in my heart.

Innkeeper's Perspective

I wish I could have built more rooms
Since Caesar's word came down.
So many people coming here
To register in town.

I hate to turn them all away,
The hour is getting late.
Another couple! Then I see
Their need is very great.

That's when I think, I have a place
That's private, warm, and dry.
I offer them my stable
And they thank me in reply.

Shepherd's Perspective

Just another night keeping
Watch o'er the sheep.
Looking for wolves
When I'd rather sleep.

Peering through darkness
To detect a foe,
Look right and left,
Above and below.

Then suddenly blinding me
Light filled the sky
Fear filled my soul,
I thought I might die.

Then an angel spoke and said,
"Do not be afraid.
A Savior has been born this night,
In a manger He is laid."

"Messiah, the Lord
Is born this night."
More angels came
And it was so bright.

"Glory to God"
They sang with one voice.
Then they were gone
And we made a choice.

Leaving our sheep
In spite of the danger,
We ran to the stable,
The babe in the manger.

We couldn't be silent,
We spread the word,
The things that we saw,
The things that we heard.

I'll never forget
What happened that night.
When I met the baby
And I saw the Light.

Magi Perspective

We study the stars
And that's how we knew
What it meant when
The star came in view.

A new king was born,
One we must see
A long trip was planned,
United were we.

We gathered our camels,
Our servants, our food.
Anticipating,
Gladness our mood.

Presents of frankincense,
Myrrh, and gold,
Gifts for a king,
Our camels did hold.

We traveled for miles
Across desert sand
Seeking the king,
Just as we planned.

"Where is the one who's born
King of the Jews?"
King Herod hated this
Disturbing news.

"Bethlehem" said a prophet
Of note.
"A ruler will come"
The prophet wrote.

We searched for the child,
Our hearts filled with joy
Seeing Mary, his mother
With her little boy.

We worshiped the child,
Bowing low to the ground.
And traveling home
A new way we found.
